About Us
Elizabeth Kakouras Chiarel & Maria Chiarel Diamond, So Blue's Mother-Daughter team
I (Elizabeth) established So Blue Greek Ceramics & Gifts in 2002 selling handmade and hand-painted ceramic pieces from the Peloponnesos. Over the years, the collection has expanded and includes one of a kind works of art from all over Greece. While ceramics remain at the heart of our collection, we now offer many different gifts including pillow covers, table linens, goats milk soaps, wooden art, prints, handbags, and more. The collection has also expanded from beyond the country of Greece itself and features various pieces created by Greek Australian and Greek American artists.
My daughter Maria always loved helping with the business, whether she was helping pick out ceramics during workshop visits in Greece or working with me at Greek festivals all over the Southeast. In 2020, she launched So Blue's e-commerce site and started establishing a social media presence.
At the end of 2022, a decades-long dream in the making of having a physical storefront started coming to fruition. Thanks to a connection we made with a local church parishioner, we found a fantastic space in downtown Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Our plans to open in late summer were unfortunately put on hold when the both of us were in an accident at the beginning of August. After taking the next few months to recover and regain our strength, we were finally able to open on December 9, 2023. Being part of the incredible Canonsburg community is an honor and we are so grateful for everyone's support!
